Black Pride events celebrate the intersection of Black and LGBTQ+ identities, centering Black queer and trans experiences in spaces that are often underrepresented in mainstream Pride celebrations. These events are an essential part of the broader LGBTQ+ movement.
What is Black Pride?
Black Pride events are organized celebrations that specifically center Black LGBTQ+ people. While mainstream Pride events are inclusive, Black Pride creates dedicated space for:
- Celebrating Black LGBTQ+ culture, art, and community
- Addressing issues uniquely affecting Black queer and trans people
- Building community and solidarity
- Honoring Black LGBTQ+ history and activism
Black Pride events are organized independently from mainstream city Pride organizations, with their own schedules, venues, and programming.
