What to expect at Chicago Pride 2026

The Chicago Pride Parade is a massive, high-energy march featuring 150+ floats, marching groups, dance troupes, and community organizations. The parade route runs through the heart of Boystown, and the sidewalks are packed 10-deep with spectators. Expect rainbow flags on every light pole, rooftop parties, and block-long viewing parties outside the bars along Halsted Street.

Chicago Pride Fest is a separate two-day street festival held the weekend before the parade on North Halsted Street in Boystown. It features live music on multiple stages, 100+ vendors, drag performances, and food from neighborhood restaurants. Suggested donation is $15 at the gate.

International Mr. Leather (IML) takes place in Chicago May 21-25, 2026 — a major leather and kink community event that draws thousands from around the world. If you're planning a longer Chicago trip, IML weekend is a significant event on the LGBTQ+ calendar.

The parade route

The parade starts at Montrose Avenue and Broadway in the Uptown neighborhood at noon. It heads south on Broadway, passing through the Northalsted (Boystown) neighborhood along Halsted Street, then turns east on Diversey Parkway, ending at Sheridan Road near Lincoln Park. The route is about 3 miles.

Best viewing is along Broadway between Montrose and Belmont (closer to the start) or along Halsted Street in Boystown (the most festive atmosphere). Arrive by 10:00 AM for Halsted Street spots — the bars open early and the sidewalks fill fast.

Key neighborhoods

Northalsted (Boystown) — Chicago's official LGBTQ+ neighborhood, centered on North Halsted Street between Belmont and Addison. The rainbow pylons marking the district are a Chicago landmark. Dozens of gay bars, restaurants, and shops line the street. This is ground zero for Pride.

Andersonville — A welcoming, diverse neighborhood on the north side with a strong lesbian and queer women's community. Great independent bookshops, cafes, and the Women & Children First bookstore.

Rogers Park — Chicago's most diverse neighborhood, on the far north side along the lake. A more relaxed, affordable alternative with a growing LGBTQ+ presence and beautiful beaches.

Where to stay

Lakeview/Boystown is the best location for Pride — you can walk to the parade and every bar in the neighborhood. Hotels in the Loop (downtown) are plentiful and a short CTA Red Line ride to the parade. Lincoln Park is also walkable to the parade's end point.

Budget tip: Hostels and Airbnbs in Wicker Park or Logan Square are cheaper and well-connected by the Blue Line and bus routes.

Getting there

CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) is the way to go. The Red Line stops at Sheridan, Addison, and Belmont — all near the parade route. The Brown Line stops at Diversey (near the end of the route). CTA adds extra service on parade day.

Do not plan to drive or park in Lakeview on parade day. Streets are closed by 9:00 AM and parking is impossible. If you must drive, park in the Loop or at a CTA station and take the train.
